Braque Du Bourbonnais Dog Breeders Cactus Country Kennels is located in Southern, Arizona, the heart of desert quail country. We are proud to be breeders of the exceptional Braque du Bourbonnais hunting dogs since 2003 and to offer this incredible pointer to the serious as well as the weekend hunter. Why the Braque du Bourbonnais? Because we were looking for the perfect hunting companion that would be a good fit for our family. We were also looking for something a little different from your average hunting dog. We certainly found that in our first Bourbonnais. These sporting dogs originated in France and are also known as the Bourbonnais pointer. The Bourbonnais is the most easy-going, good-natured dog we have ever owned. Throughout our website you will find pictures that you can click on. Click on the individual pictures for updated pictures. You will notice that our dogs throw fawn and liver colored pups in almost every litter. All of the dogs have a beautiful hazel eye color and birth weights range from 8 ozs. to 12 ozs.
Our first Braque du Bourbonnais, Pheasant Peak Andy (we call him Brock) was such a pleasure to watch in the field. We enjoyed the fact that he not only had such a desire to hunt, but also a desire to please the hunter. He took very little training and we were glad that he took a gentle hand. We had owned headstrong dogs in the past and felt like it took too much time just keeping them in line. Brock had a keen nose and we were amazed that it took very little to keep him steady to the shot. On the next page you can read how we were fortunate enough to find Brock. We found our second Braque du Bourbonnais bird dog in Idaho. When Emmy came home she and Brock became fast friends. He was protective and ready to show her the ropes in the field. Because she had a “mentor”, her training was very easy. Now I had two great hunting dogs and they were inseparable.
Two years later we experienced our first litter. Brock and Emmy produced beautiful puppies with their same incredible hunting drive. We have chosen to be breeders of the Braque du Bourbonnais because of our love for these dogs and our desire for every hunter to have the opportunity to own the perfect hunting companion.
Baby Bird Dog Zuri
Zuri is 6 months old and a Sophie/Jazz pup. Her human mom is a dog trainer and just loves her little girl. Mom was curious, however, about the possibility of Zuri's capability as a bird dog. She is not a hunter but wanted Zuri to have a hunting experience. We went to the field. Larry planted 2 birds, which Zuri found right away. He planted a 3rd and final bird for her. They were working towards the bird when Zuri caught the scent and spun around, pointing right towards the bird. She lifted her leg in a beautiful point and I was able to walk up and take about 15 pictures of the point. She didn't move a muscle. Here is the picture of Baby Bird Dog, Zuri's first introduction to birds in the field.

We held the 5th Annual Braque du Bourbonnais Rendezvous in Casa Grande, Arizona. With 21 hunters and 24 dogs the event was even bigger than last year! It is so fun and rewarding to see these gorgeous dogs, that we sent out as 8 week old puppies, come back and show off their hunting skills in the field. Each hunter had 8 chuckars and 2 pheasants and not many birds were left in the field. Everyone is looking forward to next year.
